Nicolina Diabo has spent years perfecting her art from behind the camera. But recently, she decided to step into the spotlight as a content creator, standing out with her warm and engaging personality, as well as her authentic take on fashion.

“For me, fashion is all about how you express yourself creatively,” the lifestyle photographer told Living. A unique aspect of her career delves into capturing all the right angles of models and socialites alike. Over time, those bold style statements began to make a lasting impact on her inner fashionista. It wasn’t long before she was trading her jeans and polo shirt work ‘fits for more elevated looks while off the clock.

Reflecting on a time when she would browse through fashion magazines growing up, Diabo found seeing these trends as an entertaining pastime. She, however, embarked on her own style transformation after meditating on her outfit choices over the years.

“I started to look back at past images of myself and I noticed how poor my taste in wardrobe was. It was high time that I did better,” she explained. Her course of action was to outdo her previous look by rocking outfits which best suited her body type.

Although the process of styling herself doesn’t come naturally, her ‘hit and miss’ or ‘trial and error’ method has proven to be efficient.

“I don’t find it easy to see two or three different items separately and put them together to make something beautiful. But I do enjoy putting myself together, so I’ll wear a dress with a signature split that shows a little skin or one that hugs my curves. I will go long or keep it short, depending on the occasion,” she said.

Describing her personal style as sultry, luxurious and colourful, Diabo is grateful that by her late 20s, she was able to decipher what complemented her body and what didn’t. “I get inspiration from seeing looks on different body types. I love to wear a variety of colours and strut looks that accentuate the body. I love to look and feel sexy. And getting compliments is just the icing on the cake.”

Living in a tropical climate, she chooses outfits that align with the weather, opting for flats over heels on some occasions. “I would wear a satin dress to a dinner event and a floral flowing dress or pastel dress for brunch. Style is in the eyes of the beholder. So it is all up to the individual.”

Her five fashion essentials include dresses, rompers, shorts and suit sets, cargo pants, high-waisted pants, and crop tops.

While not the type to mix and match, Diabo finds greater comfort in balancing simplicity with opulence, adorning her body in dresses, rompers and jumpsuits, paired with the right accessories.

What she has recognised with her style discovery is that fashion comes with more than its fair share of expenses. “Fashion is expensive,” she highlighted, adding, “I cannot keep up. I would like to say I am a hot girl, but only in theory. I have to plan wisely on what I want to put together.”

Currently, her looks are sourced online, rocking international brands like Zara, Fashion Nova, Pretty Little Things and a bit of Shein. When preparing for an event, with ample notice, she checks her wardrobe first, putting her looks together, trying them on and asking the opinions of her fiancé or friends, “I’m not a fan of being underdressed or overdressed at any given event.”

Diabo hopes to expand her creative horizons when it comes to fashion, while staying true to her roots of lavish comfort.
