Meet Content Creator Abby Baffoe | ELLE Canada Magazine

What do you think is the hardest part of your work?
“I think the hardest part is dealing with creative ruts. It’s very similar to what writers experience—sometimes you lose inspiration or you don’t have fresh, exciting ideas. There are days when you’re not feeling your best, and that can make it difficult to perform at your highest level. For me, the challenge often lies in staying inspired and avoiding those creative ruts. When you’re in a creative field like content creation, maintaining that level of creativity and enthusiasm can be tough, especially when you’re under pressure to consistently deliver new content.”
Is it difficult to separate content creation from “regular” life? Do you feel obligated to create content everywhere you go?
“It really depends on the situation. For example, if I’m just casually vlogging my experience at a grocery store in New York, it’s a lot of fun because there are no specific requirements—it’s just me doing what I enjoy with complete creative freedom. However, it becomes more challenging when I’m attending a sponsored event, like a festival with a brand. In those cases, the focus shifts from simply enjoying the event to making sure I capture everything the brand wants. It can feel like a bit of a burden because the fun aspect gets overshadowed by the need to produce content that meets specific criteria. But overall, I don’t feel that it’s too much of a burden, and I manage to have fun with it. I’ve learned to balance capturing content with enjoying the moment. For example, I often do voiceovers for my videos, which allows me to be fully present while recording and then add the commentary later.”
I saw in a video that you wanted to manifest meeting Patrick Ta this year, and then you actually did. How did that feel?
“It was truly the most magical experience. I can’t believe that something I put on my manifest list for the year actually came true. Meeting Patrick Ta was incredibly special because he’s someone I’ve admired for a long time, and it’s always a bit nerve-wracking when you meet people you’ve placed on a pedestal. But what made this experience even more amazing was that Patrick Ta turned out to be even better in person than I had imagined. In this industry, I’ve had the chance to meet many celebrities and brand owners, and sometimes the reality doesn’t live up to your expectations. However, Patrick was just as kind and genuine as I’d hoped, if not more. His brand is so diverse, and he’s a really special person in the beauty industry.”
Who else would you love to meet?
“The other person on my list for this year is Chris Appleton. He’s someone I’ve always admired in the hair industry, and I would absolutely love to collaborate with him on a hair project. His work is incredible, and I think it would be amazing to learn from him and create something together. I’m really hoping that this opportunity comes my way soon. I believe in the power of manifestation, so who knows? Maybe it will happen!”
