Watch the brutal moment a nan yells ‘you look huge’ at size 20 granddaughter in her wedding gown but not everyone agrees
A NAN has been branded ”evil” after telling her size 20 granddaughter she looked ”huge” in her dream wedding dress.
With her big day around the corner, young mum Cassie took her mum and nan to the wedding boutique to find her perfect gown – but the eldest was giving harsh feedback.
Cassie, who is a size 20, runs a successful wedding planning business and was looking to tie the knot with her partner Simon who also helps her with managing the company.
The three visited the Curvy Brides Boutique, where Cassie set her eyes on a few dress options for the romantic ceremony – before modelling them on for mum Cathy and nan Janet.
One of the options included a stunning full-length gown with show-stopping pearl detailing and a corset-style back to cinch the waist in.
Looking like a real life princess, the bride-to-be couldn’t believe her eyes – and so did her grandma and mother who reckoned she looked ”gorgeous”.
But after a successful try-on haul of the first glam number, things took a sharp turn – for the worst – when Cassie jumped into the second option.
This was a sleeveless A-line gown covered in teeny gems, with the two stylists advising her to alter it for a sweetheart neckline to make the outfit even more flattering.
Stunned by her daughter’s beauty, Cathy said she loved the frock – however, Janet was struggling to see the vision, as she immediately shared her brutal opinion.
”You look huge,” she immediately remarked after shaking her head.
”It makes you look too big, Cas,” the nan wasn’t holding back, leaving viewers of Say Yes to the Dress gobsmacked.
However, luckily, the bride-to-be was able to hit back, saying: ”Lets face, I am not a size 10.”
Seeing how much gorgeous Cassie wanted the glamorous dress, the stylist team demonstrated the small changes needed to make to ensure the gown fit better.
”It needs the zip taken out and a corset put in,, one of the fashion pros reckoned in the video.
”It can work,” she said before having a one-to-one chat with the brutal nan.
”I can’t make you love, she can’t make you love it.
”But she can’t ignore a feeling that’s in hear,” the boutique expert said, pointing to her heart.
Despite what her grandma thought of the wedding outfit, Cassie didn’t seem to take it to heart, revealing she could picture herself walking down the aisle in the dress.
”I’m talking sparkly shoes and flowers, and big braids, and mum’s crying.
”I just love it all – and it twinkles, and it shines.”
Wedding Dress Trends 2024
Sophie Creed, bridal designer and founder of bridal brand e&w Couture shared the most popular wedding dress designs for this year.
Sustainable Chic
Bridal fashion in 2024 is embracing a powerful shift towards sustainability, with brides looking closely at what fabrics are being used to make the dresses.
Many brides are also looking to wear a second-hand dress or a vintage number.
Boho Bliss
The bohemian aesthetic is effortless and laid-back elegance – ideal for relaxed weddings. Whether in a garden, on a beach, or under the stars, the boho trend is also great for nature-inspired weddings.
Couples opting for outdoor venues, and bohemian-inspired dresses with flowing silhouettes, floral lace, and whimsical details with blend in with the natural setting. It’s about bringing the romance of the outdoors into the wedding wardrobe.
Bohemian-inspired dresses often feature vintage-inspired lace, flowing sleeves, and ethereal details that stand the test of time.
Satin Elegance
Satin wedding dresses are capturing the hearts of brides who appreciate the marriage of modern simplicity and classic luxury.
This trend suits weddings that prioritize an elegant, refined aesthetic, making it an ideal choice for formal celebrations, chic city weddings, or any event where the bride envisions herself in a gown that exudes sophistication and grace.
Bold Romance
Oversized and bold modern showcase a shift in bridal fashion.
This trend is for the bride who dares to be different, breaking away from tradition and embracing a vibrant, contemporary aesthetic on the most important day of her life.
Fortunately, Janet saw how happy her granddaughter was in the gorgeous gown and gave the dress a yes.
”If you want that dress and it’s your dress, I will go along with you.”
However, social media users were in two minds – whilst some agreed with the nan’s initial reaction, others were left open-mouthed by her brutal comments.
One TikTok user said: ”Nan is evil incarnate and decidedly unwelcome.”
Someone else chimed in: ”Trying to look as small as possible shouldn’t be the only reason in choosing a dress. I honestly love that dress.”
”Nans are SAVAGE,” another quipped.
But not everyone resented the grandmother for the vicious remarks, as one wrote: ”Like her nan, I preferred the first dress.
”But what her mother understood instantly was that the only opinion that really matters is the bride’s and she knew she had found her dress.”
A YouTube viewer penned: ”The first dress was very flattering on her, I agree with the Nan there.
”But they did a great job with the alterations.”
