Dua Lipa Explains the White Dress She Wore to 2022 Wedding

Dua Lipa is clearing the air.

In a video interview with Harper’s Bazaar that was posted on X, the 29-year-old singer addresses a controversial wedding guest ensemble she wore to the 2022 nuptials of Simon Porte Jacquemus and Marco Maestri.

“This outfit kind of caused a little bit of a stir,” Lipa said in the clip, which was shared on Tuesday, Aug. 19.

“The dress code was white,” she explains. “From all the pictures you can see that everybody’s wearing white, so I don’t know why I got so much stick for it.”

“I think also because I was kind of quite naked for it as well,” the “Levitating” singer added.

For the celebration, Lipa wore a sheer white dress with a mermaid skirt, cap sleeves and 3D flower accents. She accessorized with a black handbag and white flower earrings.

The Grammy winner also explains that Jacquemus, who designed the dress, asked her to wear it.

“So it was at his request that I wore this dress to his wedding,” she recalls. “I absolutely loved it. I felt so good in it. It was just unbelievable. I feel like I talk about that wedding still to this day.”

In her accompanying profile for Harper’s Bazaar, Lipa spoke about her love of reading, which led her to start her book club, Service95.

“It was such a big part of my childhood,” she said of reading as a kid. “There was a big bookshop. It was at the O2 Centre on Finchley Road in London, and there was a kids’ section.” 

The singer recalls her mother, Anesa, spending weekends sitting in the children’s section, “reading her books, and I would just spend all day in there reading my books. I think books allow us to slow down a little bit.”

Lipa also opened up about her relationship with her fiancé, Callum Turner.

“I love love. It is a beautiful thing,” she shared. “It’s a really inspiring thing. You find yourself so intensely falling all the time in the best way possible.”

She added: “That vulnerability is so scary, but I feel so lucky to get to feel it. I’ve spent a lot of time being guarded or protecting my heart, and so I’m letting go of that feeling and just being like, ‘Okay, if I’m supposed to get hurt, then this is what’s going to happen.’ I have to just allow love.”

Of her relationship with Turner, 35, Lipa says she’s “happier than ever.”

“So it feels like I’m doing a disservice by not talking about it,” Lipa said of their romance, noting that her personal life is “very vulnerable” as someone in the public eye.

“It’s not like I don’t want to share it,” she added.

Lipa and Turner initially sparked romance rumors in January 2024 when they were first spotted together at the Masters of Air afterparty following its London premiere. At the time, the duo were captured in a video slow dancing.

The singer confirmed their engagement in a June interview with British Vogue.

“Yeah, we’re engaged. It’s very exciting,” she told the outlet.
