Brooke Shields’ Daughter Wore Mom’s Wedding Dress For Graduation
Brooke Shields recently discussed how hard it was for her to become an empty nester. But there are moments of joy along the way — like seeing her youngest daughter graduate from high school wearing the dress Shields wore when she married tennis star Andre Agassi in 1997.
“Her graduation dress was my first wedding dress,” Shields confirmed to People. The actress, model and entrepreneur added, “She looked great in it.”
Grier Henchy, 18, is the youngest child of Shields and husband Chris Henchy. Like her mother, she has an interest in modeling, and she even joined Shields in a 2022 Mother’s Day campaign for Victoria’s Secret.
Shields had been anticipating how difficult it would be when Grier left the nest. On an April 2023 appearance on “The Kelly Clarkson Show,” she mentioned that she was “getting nervous” for Grier’s departure for college.
Luckily, Grier decided to join her older sister Rowan Henchy, 21, at Wake Forest University in North Carolina. Even though her girls moved away, they’re still together.
Grier had some ideas about how to modernize her mother’s dress.
“We had to re-bone it a little bit so it was tight and sleek,” she told People. “We took out all the poof because I didn’t want it poofy.” They also changed the neckline to create a strapless silhouette.
“It’s such an honor when they want to wear your stuff. Normally they don’t think I’m cool,” said Shields.
A visibly thrilled Shields posted pictures of Grier’s graduation on Instagram, including a few that highlighted the dress. In the caption, she wrote: “I am so endlessly proud of her and the woman she’s becoming. The future looks so bright for you, Grier.”
This isn’t the first time Shields’s daughters have poked around her closet.
When Shields sat down with Oprah Winfrey as part of Oprah Daily’s “The Life You Want” class, she said that one of her daughters was horrified at the amount of dust in her mom’s closet. “If you’re not going to wear this stuff, I’m gonna wear it!” she said.
Shields said she doesn’t mind when her daughters borrow her vintage clothes, and in fact she loves seeing them in pieces she used to wear. The look on her face says it all.
